Understanding the Significance of Quranic Ijazah

With the recitation and mastery of the narration or narrations authorized, he becomes qualified to recite them, and by obtaining this Ijazah, the reader will have connected his chain of transmission to the Prophet – may God bless him and grant him peace – and will be part of the chain of transmitters of the Book of God Almighty with a continuous chain of transmission.

What are the types of Ijazah:

The types of Ijazah are:

Ijazah with a single narration, such as the license with the narration of Hafs from Asim

Ijazah in the seven readings through Al-Shatibiyyah

Ijazah in the three readings that complete the ten through Al-Durrah Al-Mudhiyyah and the ten readings through Al-Shatibiyyah and Al-Durrah are called the minor ten

Ijazah in the major ten readings through Tayyibat Al-Nashr

By obtaining one of these licenses, the reader will have connected his chain of transmission to the Prophet Muhammad and will be part of the chain of transmitters of the Qur’an with a continuous chain of transmission.

There are other types of licenses, such as those that hadith scholars used to grant to their students or peers. They mean attesting to the licensee’s mastery of the science in which he was licensed and his eligibility to teach others. There are multiple methods for them, which can be referred to in books on hadith terminology.

How to obtain an Ijazah and the conditions of the Ijazah:

Steps and conditions for obtaining a license for the licensee in readings:

Obtaining Islamic knowledge.

Knowledge and mastery of the rules of Tajweed.

Knowledge of the science of stopping, starting, drawing and breaks.

Knowledge of the sciences of the Holy Quran and interpretation.

Knowledge of the chains of transmission of the reciters.

Knowledge of the Arabic language.

Memorizing the Holy Quran with perfect memorization and knowledge of the principles of readings.

Studying the text in Tajweed and understanding the text and studying it comprehensively. The text in the context of the science of Hadith is the actual text of the Hadith, i.e. the phrases found in the text of the Hadith that the narrators discussed in narration with each other. In other words, the text of the Hadith is what its chain of transmission ends with, and the name of this text varies in terms of the relation to its speaker and in terms of the methods of narrating it (i.e. the number of its narrators).

The text in the language: the back, and from it the text of the earth, meaning what is high and solid from it, and the text of the language, meaning its origins, vocabulary and words.

Obtaining a license with a single narration such as the narration of Hafs, Warsh or Qaloon

Conditions of the text when judging the authenticity of the hadith

Hadith scholars stipulated conditions for judging the authenticity of the hadith, including conditions specific to the text, which are:

The text is free from anomalies. If a single trustworthy narrator narrated the hadith alone and the text of the hadith contradicted what was narrated by someone more trustworthy than him, the text of the hadith would be anomalous.

The text is free from defects. If a defect of the hadith’s defects appears in the text, such as the narrator adding words from him that the Prophet did not say, the text of the hadith would be defective.

Types of Al-Mutun:

The description of the text varies according to the speaker as follows:

 Mutun attributed to God:

Mutun attributed to God on the tongue of His Prophet Muhammad is called the Holy Hadith.

Mutun attributed to the Prophet:

Mutun is attributed to the Prophet Muhammad , and it is from the words of the Prophet

ForMutun attributed to one of the Companions.

Mutun attributed to one of the Companions and not from the words of the Prophet is called the Mawquf Hadith.

Mutun attributed to one of the Followers:

Mutun attributed to one of the Followers and not from the words of the Prophet is called the Maqtu’ Hadith.

Memorizing Al Mutun of Al-Shatibiyyah, which is a poem by Imam Al-Qasim bin Fira bin Khalaf Al-Shatibi and Al-Ra’ini in the science of readings and contains the seven readings and Al-Durra with it for those who want the minor ten. Or memorizing Tayyibat Al-Nashr for those who want the major ten.

Understanding Al Mutun and studying it thoroughly.

Reading a complete recitation by heart with a licensed Sheikh, paying attention to the different aspects and their corrections, and taking care to link the differences of the reciters with their evidence from the text relied upon in the recitation.

Conditions of the authorized Sheikh who will give you the license:

The person must be just, not immoral or have obvious sins and insist on them because when he obtains the license, he must be aware that he is the bearer of the trust of memorizing and teaching the Quran.

Control:

The authorized Sheikh must have control of knowledge and understanding, which means that the student must be aware of the reading and narration that his Sheikh narrates and that he understands how to stop at words and control the places of beginning and stopping.

Control of memorization and recitation, as he must have memorized the Book of Allah completely without changing it by addition or subtraction so that the memorization is by heart.

Memorizing the Quran with perfect memorization:

One of the basics of obtaining a license in the Quran is that the authorized person must have memorized the Holy Quran by heart, and complete Tajweed for it with mastery of the exits of the letters and the controls of reciting the Quran and understanding the meanings and interpretation.

Reading the Quran letter by letter with the authorized Sheikh:

This is done by reading the Quran starting from the opening chapter of the book until Surat An-Nas while maintaining adherence to the rules of Tajweed and its provisions without making mistakes in reading or in the Arabic language.

Training the authorized person to recite:

The authorized person must train the authorized person to recite because not everyone who is good at reading is good at reciting, and for this reason, he must train well to teach others to recite.

Memorizing the Al-Jazariyyah Introduction to Tajweed:

It is considered a condition for authorization in the Quran, and this is because the transmission of the Quran has many specific controls and restrictions that include the characteristics of the letters and their exits. It is worth noting that the Al-Jazariyyah Introduction to Tajweed is the one presented by Imam Ibn Al-Jazari, and it contains most of the rules of Tajweed and understanding its explanation and meanings.

Types of Ijazah certificates in the Quran:

Ijazah for memorizing the Holy Quran and mastering it completely by heart with Tajweed according to one or more narrations from the ten reciters.

Ijazah certificate for mastering the recitation of the Quran, which is given to the person who has mastered the recitation of the Quran by looking at the Mushaf, while committing to memorizing the Jazariyah system or one of the Tajweed texts.

Ijazah certificate for attending the recitation mastery course, which is based on the theoretical curriculum that was studied, the time period of the course, and the amount of actual recitation, and these matters are added to the certificate.

Importance of Ijazah in the Quran:

Mastering the memorization of the Holy Quran has a great status with Allah Almighty, in terms of increasing the reward and recompense.

Ijazah helps in mastering the recitation of the Quran.

Mastering the recitation of the Holy Quran with the rules of Tajweed, correct recitation free of errors, and striving to read better to obtain the Ijazah.

The ability to teach the Quran and memorize it to others after obtaining the Ijazah.

Upon obtaining the license, the authorized reciter’s chain of transmission is connected to our master Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he becomes part of the chain of transmitters of the Qur’an with a continuous chain transmission, and thus the authorized reciter can transmit the Qur’an to others and authorize others.

The noble Messenger also urged us to obtain the chain of transmission and the license, and this is clear from the noble hadith narrated by the two sheikhs on the authority of Abdullah bin Masoud, may God be pleased with him, where he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Recite the Qur’an to me.” I said: “Shall I recite it to you when it was revealed to you?” He said: “I like to hear it from someone other than me.” The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, spoke the truth.

Finally, some advice for those who have memorized the Qur’an and wish to obtain the license:

You must constantly review the Holy Qur’an read a daily portion of the Qur’an, and have your teacher review it for you.

It is important to read the Qur’an in the Sunnah prayers, the night prayers, and the silent and loud prayers.

The time after dawn is considered one of the best times to review the recitation and intonation of the Qur’an.

The bearer of the Holy Quran and the one authorized to recite it must have certain characteristics, including good morals and following the path of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the Companions. He must adhere to Islamic knowledge, contemplate the meanings of the Quran and its interpretation, and master the rules of Quranic recitation.
